- Who is JustGive?
JustGive is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to increase charitable giving by connecting people with the charities and causes they care most about. JustGive processes donations made through Discover Giving. JustGive is the charity of record for tax documentation purposes.
- Who is GuideStar?
GuideStar is the nonprofit organization who provides Discover Giving with a database of nearly 1.5 million 501(c)(3) U.S. nonprofit organizations recognized by the IRS. All public charities listed in the GuideStar database are recognized by the IRS as eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions.
- How long does it take for my charity to receive my gift?
Donations through Discover Giving are processed by our partner, JustGive. JustGive processes donation checks by the 10th of the month in the month after the donation was made. So, for example, if you make a donation through Discover Giving on March 8th, JustGive sends the check to the charity by April 10th. The confirmation you receive at the end of your donation can serve as a receipt for tax purposes: it's important that you keep it for your records.
- Is my donation safe and secure?
Our website security is provided by Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), a recognized authentication and encryption software. In other words, the site becomes locked while you are giving us your information and unlocks only when you leave the secured area, and your credit card number is "encrypted" so it is unreadable to anyone who is not part of your transaction. For more information, please read our Privacy & Security Statement. http://discover.justgive.org/faq/privacy.jsp
- Will you protect my privacy?
JustGive guarantees that we will not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone outside JustGive. In addition, we allow you to donate anonymously if you wish. In that case, the charity to which you donate will not receive information about you without your permission. Please read more in our Privacy & Security Statement. http://discover.justgive.org/faq/privacy.jsp.
- Will I receive a donation confirmation?
When your donation is completed, JustGive immediately sends you a receipt via email. All your donations made through Discover Giving also appear in your account Giving History. To view donations for any given year, simply log into Your Giving Account.
- What are the advantages of donating online?
JustGive provides detailed information about each charity, a quick way to search for charities by name or keyword and an easy way to donate. You can make multiple donations in one transaction, donate anonymously and set-up recurring donations.
You can also view your Giving History, which allows you to keep track of your donations throughout the year. That's especially helpful at tax time.
- How much of my donation goes to my charity?
On all donations (one time or recurring) JustGive will deduct a small transaction fee of 2.25% from your donation to cover their internal processing costs. This transaction fee should not impact the total amount of your tax deduction. Please consult with your tax advisor.
- Can I make a donation over the phone?
JustGive processes only online donations to keep our costs down and pass on the greatest amount to your charity.
- Can I make an anonymous donation?
Yes. An anonymous donation means the charity knows your donation amount but does not receive your name or any other contact information about you. Read more about user privacy rights in our Privacy & Security Statement.
- Can I make a donation as a gift for someone else?
Absolutely, and it's one of Discover Giving's most popular options. You simply enter your recipient's name, email address, and a personal message on the donation form. The recipient is notified automatically via e-mail. (If your recipient does not have email, submit your email address. Once you receive the notification email, just print it out and give it to your recipient.)
- Can I make a donation as a gift in memory of someone?
Yes. Fill in the name of a friend or loved one who has passed away. Then enter the family member's name and email address and add a personal message. Your recipient is notified automatically via e-mail. (If your recipient does not have email, submit your email address. Once you receive the notification email, just print it out and give it to your recipient.)
- What are my payment options?
You must donate through Discover Giving using your Discover card. If you prefer to donate by check or cash, please contact your favorite charities directly. You can find their contact information quickly and easily in our database.
- Is there a minimum donation amount?
Yes, but that minimum donation is an affordable ten dollars. And, of course, we accept donations of any amount above the minimum.
- Are my donations 100% tax deductible?
All charities on Discover Giving are tax-exempt and your donation is fully deductible to the full amount allowed by law.
It's important to know, however, that not all donations can be claimed as charitable deductions, even if the organization is registered as a nonprofit. Check with the IRS on whether or not an organization can receive charitable deductions.
For charitable events, usually only a portion of the ticket value is deductible, and the charity can tell you exactly the amount you may deduct.

- What if the charity does not accept the donation?
If the charity you have selected does not accept the donation, is no longer recognized by the IRS as a public charity, or is not in good standing with federal regulators, JustGive will contact you via e-mail for an alternate recommendation. If you do not respond within 30 days, JustGive will select another charity that meets high public standards and whose mission is similar to the organization that you originally selected. If your designated charity funds do not clear the bank within one year, those funds are reallocated to JustGive for program services.
- Can I make recurring donations?
Donations through Discover Giving can be made monthly, quarterly or annually. Check the recurring monthly, quarterly or annually option on the Make a Donation page. Your recurring donation will begin on the first day of the month following your initial donation.
- How do I set-up a recurring donation?
You can choose to make recurring donations monthly, quarterly or on an annual basis. However, all recurring donations set up through Discover Giving must be on the same frequency schedule (i.e., you cannot donate to one charity once a month and to another charity once a year).
Your first donation will be charged immediately, and then you choose the scheduled date of your next month, quarter or annual recurring.
- Can I designate my recurring billing donation to a special program or event?
Yes. When you choose your recurring donation charities, you may designate the donations. Every time the donation is sent to the charity, it will include the designation you specify during the original transaction.
- Can I make recurring donations to more than one charity?
Yes, you can make recurring donations to more than one charity, but they must all be on the same frequency schedule (either monthly, quarterly or annually). You can sign up to make recurring donations to multiple charities at one time by clicking the "Add More Charities" button in your Giving Basket. Or, you can add more charities at a later date by logging into your account. All of your recurring donations will be made on the frequency schedule (either monthly, quarterly or annually) that you select when you sign up for a recurring donation.
- How do I cancel a recurring donation?
Log in to Your Giving Account and click on "Remove Profile" to update your recurring donations. A recurring donation cannot be refunded once your Discover Card has been charged.
